Day 2 - Turkey 2011

Hello everyone,

We went to visit our partner school today and we were welcomed by children performing a traditional dance and were delighted to get a lovely flower as a welcome gift.

We met parents, staff and lots of children who were all very happy to show their school off to their friends across Europe.

We joined in some lessons.  The school is very different to BB - all of the children sit in rows and there are not many pupils in each class.  There were no displays on the walls but the children were all very well behaved.  Some of the children even knew English football teams, so we told them that we supported Sunderland!!!  We gave a presentation about Benedict Biscop and everyone said they would like to come and visit and all thought our school looked lovely.

After the school, we had a traditional Turkish lunch and then went to meet the mayor in his office where he gave a speech about Turkey and said how delighted he was to have us all as visitors in his town.  We gave him a BB paper weight as a gift to say thanks for hosting us in the town.  We met the local authority director of education and had some time to ask lots of questions about schools in Turkey.  We will tell you all about it when we get back.

On the way back to the hotel, we had some time to explore the amazing pink rocks which are like nothing we have every seen before.  Inside there are miles of caves where people used to live and there are monasteries carved into the rocks.  The views from the top were simply awesome!

We are off to have some tea soon and for an early night as we have to be up at 4.30am in the morning!!!

Hope you are all ok and having a good week at school.

Love Mrs Thompson and Miss Fountain
